A Legacy Memorialized

Many will remember late Vinny Abondanza and his esteemed legacy of genuine friendships and caring nature. As a dear friend of JohnsÌýManville, we memorialized his honor last June in an article detailing how hisÌýmemory will live on through the Vinny Abbondanza Pavilion to be used by hisÌýfavorite organization, The Boy Scouts of America which can be read about here.ÌýWe are happy to share the exciting updates of the pavilion’s construction whichÌýwill be ready for the Scout’s use this summer!

This 30’ x 60’ outdoor pavilion in Russell, Mass. is locatedÌýat the Horace A Moses Reservation, a site used by Boy Scout Troop 114 Agawam for scouting activities. Last December, siteÌýwork was completed. Despite a mild winter, March brought three feet of snow to theÌýcamp, delaying construction until the snow cleared. Thankfully, by April 13,Ìý90°F+Ìýtemperatures arrived, and a few small work crews were able to begin the frameÌýstructure for Vinny’s pavilion. Southwick Troop 114, FastenMaster, WR Meadows,ÌýStan Choiniere Consulting, and SE Marketing worked together to install supportÌýposts and roof supports. Their hard work has paved the way for the next stepsÌýof installing roof trusses, plywood sheathing and the roofing system. Lastly,Ìýthe team will pour the concrete flooring and footing for the adjacent fire pit.Ìý

Vinny was actively involved with this troop for over 16Ìýyears, making this pavilion the perfect tribute to his love for the Scouts. SamÌýEverett, Western Massachusetts Council Vice President of the Boy Scouts ofÌýAmerica, shares the groups gratitude for all those donating their time andÌýefforts, “We can’t wait to have a beautiful new facilityÌýfor the Scouts to use this summer!â€
